The Victorian High Country is beautify in Summer; and there’s no better base for exploring it than the Bogong Rover Chalet.

Summer bookings run from the first weekend after Melbourne Cup Weekend and end the 30th April each year.


The opportunities are endless, but here are some ideas to get you started:

Mountain Bike Weekend

The Bogong Rover Chalet offers a unique opportunity for Venturers to experience Mountain Bike Riding in the Victorian High Country at a great price. The trip will be an action packed experience, allowing Venturers to enjoy the thrills and spills of Mountain Bike Riding in some of the most highly regarded off road cycling areas in Australia.

Whether you are a die-hard mountain biker or someone who would enjoy a casual ride in the scenic Victorian high country this weekend is for YOU. NOTE: You still need to be a fairly strong cycler. Venturer Leaders are encouraged to accompany their Venturers.

When: 9 Apr - 11 Apr

Cost: $TBC covers meals, accommodation, and bus transport for you and your bike from Heathmont Scout Centre (on Heathmont Road)

Location: The Bogong Rover Chalet (we organise a bus from Melbourne). You can either make your own way there, or we organise transport for you and your bike from Heathmont Scout Centre (on Heathmont Road) on Thursday afternoon.

Itinerary: The following is a quick outline of the weekend.

  • Thursday: Travel to the Chalet
  • Friday: Riding local trails and MTB skills
  • Saturday: Riding single track trails at Falls Creek
  • Sunday: Pack up and a short ride. Travel back home

Bike Hire: Bike hire is available if you don’t own a Mountain Bike. Please contact us if you are unsure whether your bike is suitable.

What else: The weekend has a limited number of places, so book soon.

Award Scheme: Venturer Award Level Outdoors or Pursuits can be completed on the weekend with the approval of your Unit Council, and/or District/Zone Venturer Council. The weekend includes 15 hours of riding on trails, obstacles and single track, instruction on MTB safety, skills and maintenance. This weekend can contribute towards the Queen Scout Level Outdoors and Pursuits badges, which both require 30 hours over 6 months.

Getting Here

The Bogong Rover Chalet is located in Victoria’s High Country, about 11km from Falls Creek. The drive from Melbourne is roughly 5 hours.

The Chalet is a comfortable walk from the Cope Hut Carpark.

Pricing and Bookings

Summer bookings are per night. It’s $15 per person for Scout Members or $30 per person for the general public.

The minimum booking fee is $150.

The Bogong Rover Chalet is a unique building, and groups that require assistance running the Chalet - required for any group who haven’t been to the Chalet before, or who don’t have experience running the Chalet - will need to pay an additional $200 fee as part of a hosting arrangement.

Working Bees

We run a number working bees during summer. The dates of these vary, but are generally run over weekends with public holidays. Our current working bee dates can be seen here.

Make sure you contact the Bookings Officer to confirm your attendance (we have strict space and safety requirements).
